VERSE:
Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly
and revere your God. I am the LORD.
-- Leviticus 19:32

THOUGHT:
In an age where respect is little known and even less practiced,
showing honor for those who are older is often overlooked. Yet in
this place, by the LORD's own word, showing respect for the elderly
ranks right up there with reverencing God. But then we shouldn't be
surprised, since God made honoring parents the very first
commandment (in the Ten Commandments -- Exodus 20) directed at our
relationship with others -- the first four commandments were
directed at our relationship with him!

PRAYER:
Holy and Eternal God, thank you for my parents in the flesh and
in the faith. Please give those who have been my spiritual mentors
a special blessing. Without their guidance, I'm not sure where I
would have ended up. Help me as I grow older to not only mature,
but to also gain the character that will be needed by those whom
you have placed before me to influence. May we, young and old
alike, restore dignity and respect to our relationships before you
in our generation. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

LEAVE YOUR WORRIES TO GOD.

August 29, 2011VERSE:
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you
will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not
life more important than food, and the body more important than
clothes?
-- Matthew 6:25

THOUGHT:
Worries are many and they all seem to crowd in around bill time,
don't they. Jesus reminded us that life is more than food or
clothes. The real question is whether we can live like life is more
than food and clothing. We get deceived so easily, like Esau who
sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. Let's not sell out what is
precious for the allure of what will most likely end in difficulty
and entanglements or at the very least doesn't have eternal value.

PRAYER:
Generous Father, banish fear and selfishness from my heart. I
know you have already provided the most incredible gift of all
time. Please help me pursue you and your will and not the things
that choke out your presence in my life. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.

My Prayer

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God,
till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who
are to come.
-- Psalm 71:18

THOUGHT:

In the beautiful hymn entitled, "O Sacred Head," the final verse
ends with this plea: "Lord, let me never, never, outlive my love to
thee." To this sentiment we want to add one other: "Lord, let me
never, never, die until the next generation knoweth thee!"

PRAYER:

Lord God Almighty, the great I AM, help me and those in my
generation to pass on an appreciation of your power and glory to
those who come after us. Bless your Church's future with many more
continuous generations of faith after me or until that day you send
your Son to bring your people home. In the name of my coming Lord,
Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

'Memories of Grandma's House'

Remembering the hours at Grandma's house
Is such a pleasure for me,
To hear Mom say "yes, you can go"
Was all that I would need.

Grandma quarreled at my bare feet
Walking on her cold floor,
She'd say 'you'll catch your death'
I'd just politely ignore.

We'd walk out to the garden and pick tomatoes,
beans, cucumbers and such,
It was fun to eat at Grandma's house
She seemed to have so much.

The chicken pen was one of my favorites
To count and gather eggs,
Stepping around each little chick
Scared they'd peck my leg.

The pigs were my very favorite
As you can probably see,
I have them scattered through out my house
They hold sweet memories for me.

I did get to drive the tractor once
When I was really small,
Uncle Bob sat me in front of him
And Boy! Did I feel tall!

The swing, the trees, the coal shed of kittens
Bring back memories to me,
Grandpa letting me get the mail
Those days were special you see.

I still go back in my mind's eye
'Memories' how they rush,
One that isn't as sweet as the others
Is the toilet that didn't flush.

Mysterious Leg Problem

The patient said, "Doc, you must check my leg. Something's

wrong. Just put your ear up to my thigh, and you'll hear

it!" The doctor cautiously placed his ear to the man's thigh

and heard, "Give me $10! I'm desperate! I need $10!"

"I've never seen or heard anything like this before! How

long has this been going on?" the doctor asked.

"That's nothing, Doc. Put your ear to my knee." The doctor

put his ear to the man's knee and heard it say, "Please! I

really need $5! Just $5! Please! I'm desperate!"

The doctor was truly dumbfounded. "Sir, I really don't know

what to tell you. I've never seen anything like this."

"Wait, Doc, that's not all of it. There's more. Just put

your ear down on my ankle," the man urged him. The doctor

did as the man said and was amazed to hear his ankle plead,

"Please, I just need $20! Please lend me $20, please! I am

really desperate!"

"I have no idea what to tell you. There's nothing about it

in any of my books," the doctor said as he frantically

searched all his medical reference books. "However, I can

make a well-educated guess. Based on life and all my

previous experiences, I can tell you with some certainty

that your leg seems to be broke in three places."

In God We Trust (You might be a Redneck)

We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to

Take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that
Values home, family, country and God. If I had to stand
Before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd
Choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up.
Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are
Made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the
Same, pass this on to your redneck friends.
Y'all know who ya are.

You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to
Be offended by the phrase, 'One nation, under God..'

You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing
The 10 Commandments posted in public places.

You might be a redneck if: You still say ' Christmas'
Instead of 'Winter Festival.'

You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when
Someone prays.

You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your
Hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem

You might be a redneck if: You treat our armed forces
Veterans with great respect, and always have.

You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an
American flag, nor intend to.

You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe
And you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and
Raised your kids to do the same.

You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to
A friend.

If you got this email from me, it is because I believe that
You, like me, have just enough Red Neck in you to have the
Same beliefs as those talked about in this email.

SUMMER

Where is the summer going?
It is almost July and I haven't even bought flowers or tomato plants.
I think we get so bogged down with life we forget to enjoy it.
I am determined to smell the roses, enjoy my family and enjoy the gifts of life.

Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day

In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming

Easter and Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring

a discrimination case against Christians, Jews, and

observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was

unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the

passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his

gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood, objecting to the ruling and

saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case?

The Christians have Christmas, Easter, and others. The Jews

have Passover, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah, yet my client and

all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do.

Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special

observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fool's

Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there

is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court that if

your client says there is no God, then he is a fool.

Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."

Enjoying Bryce (Heather and Joey's baby)

Dangerous Criminal

One night, a lady stumbled into the police station with a
black eye. She claimed she heard a noise in her back yard
and went to investigate. The next thing she knew, she was
hit in the eye and knocked out cold.

An officer was sent to her house to investigate, and he
returned 1-1/2 hours later with a black eye.

"Did you get hit by the same person?" his captain asked.
"No," he replied. "I stepped on the same rake."

In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the prophets.

-- Matthew 7:12

The Golden Rule -- golden because it's genuine, lasting, and valuable. Imagine how different our world would be if we practiced this principle -- not just in our "church life," but in our daily life ... with our family, ... with our coworkers and employer, ...with the people we manage, ... with the folks on the freeway and in
the neighborhoods where we drive, ... toward the waiters and waitresses who serve us. What a wonderfully different world it would be if the Golden Rule were to be practiced. I think I'll start changing my world with it today! How about you?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Generous Father, you have blessed me with so many rich and wonderful gifts. I can never ever adequately express to you the thanks you deserve. One thing I want you to know, dear Father, is that I especially appreciate the way you have treated me with grace and not with justice or judgment. Give me the power to do the same with the people my life touches this week. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
When Dog Meets Cat
So I take Mia out to potty this morning (I take her out front, the others outback) and I hear a desperate meow.
First I ignored it because cats aren't my thing and there are tons around here..Most know they aren't allowed on my property (don't ask how they know). But I look and there is a med size kitten in the pine tree next door trying to get down..
My first thought, am I going to have to call 911 to rescue a kitten. So I talk to it and it comes toward me and gets to the end of a branch, then started swinging then finally jumps down. It is the exact color of Mia and so cute..of course Mia goes crazy..
Then I come in and get some of the chicken & noodles I cooked for my outside dog and gave it some on a paper plate. I had three dogs with hair up wanting a piece of it so bad. It was adorable and I think I could have learned to like it.
But my dogs won't let me have a cat.
Extinct
Brenda's six-year-old daughter was explaining to the other
kids what "extinct" meant:
"Well," she said in all seriousness, "it means that the
dinosaurs are all dead and have been dead so long they don't
stink anymore. That's why they call them exstinked."
Some Human Thinking
I have a neighbor two doors down that has a speaker in his voice box :-)
You can hear him over a chain saw, a loud car and even a lawn mower.
He got his wife a tea cup Chihuahua. It barks (yaps) constantly when someone comes
to the door or we walk by. He yells over it and tells it to shut up and then continues to talk.
I thought tonight I couldn't have a yapping dog again..I have had yapping dogs.
God gave me a puppy that doesn't bark..GOD IS SO GOOD AND PERFECT.
I got the neatest feeling toward God and was thanking Him for things.
Then I got a better feeling..I asked God if in Heaven we could get alone sometime and
just talk. I would love to have Him tell me things about my life and His.
GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.
